Patty Cox comes to Student Niner Media with nearly 40 years of experience in the news industry. She has spent much of her career revamping, redesigning and reimagining two nationally recognized news organizations and leading award-winning teams.
Most recently, she was the editor-in-chief for digital at The Weather Channel, where she oversaw content across all platforms for one of the largest and most trusted media outlets in the world.
Before joining The Weather Channel, she was a managing editor at the Tampa Bay Times, Florida's largest news organization. There she was tasked with developing a tabloid aimed at young professionals and a magazine for affluent market segments. She led the newspaper's first print redesign in a generation and then the rethinking of tampabay.com.
Working as a consultant, she had a hand in redesigning publications and newsrooms from Miami to Grand Rapids to Dubai.
As assistant director of Student Niner Media, she advises and supports student media organizations, including the newspaper, literary magazine, audio, video and other initiatives.
She has a bachelor of science degree in journalism from Bowling Green State University.
