By Justin Paprocki, Assistant Director of Student Niner Media Advising and Support
More than 40 students attended the annual Niner Media workshops Aug. 17 and 18 in the College of Health and Human Services building on campus. Workshops are a time for students participating in the program to start planning for the year and building their teams. The first day is reserved for returning staff members to reflect on the past year and set goals for the upcoming year.
On the second day, new students were invited to connect with staff. Three UNC Charlotte graduates also returned to serve on a career-advice panel. Danna Robinson
(Harris Teeter VP of Corporate Affairs), Patrick Lynch (ASM Global Senior VP of Sales, Private Events) and Jacob Phares (Vice President of Real Estate, Construction, and Facilities Maintenance) spoke about the importance of networking, how their experiences in college shaped their careers and ways applicants can stand out to employers. Student leaders ended the workshops by hosting sessions on a host of topics, including podcasting basics, journalistic writing, story idea creation, strategic communication strategy and more.
Student Niner Media is open to all UNC Charlotte students interested in media production. Niner Media consists of Niner Times (newspaper and ninertimes.com), Nova (literary arts magazine), Midas (magazine), Uptown Audio (podcasting) and media marketing. Interested students can learn more here.
