By Justin Paprocki, Assistant Director of Student Niner Media Advising and Support
Niner Times, Nova Literary Arts Magazine and Midas Magazine were recognized at CMA’s annual convention March 13-16 in New York City. Niner Times won two first place awards for its coverage of the Feb. 1 active shooter false-alarm on campus.
Four students attended the convention, which featured sessions by student journalists, advisers and media professionals. Niner Times Assistant Sports Editor Davis Cuffe joined a pre-convention session where a group of students covered the Big East men’s basketball tournament at Madison Square Garden. Cuffe later moderated a panel discussion with keynote speaker Bomani Jones, a sports journalist who formerly worked at ESPN.
The College Media Association is the nation’s largest organization representing student media outlets from across the country. The Apple Awards are given to attendees of the New York City convention and recognize the best college media organizations and individual work, all produced by students.
