Editors at Niner Times have the opportunity to obtain a micro-credential in media production. Charlotte’s credential program allows students to get recognition for their expertise in a particular area. The micro-credential in media production can be a great way to show employers a valuable skill set developed during their time at Niner Times.
Students participating in the media production pathway will publish their work to build their portfolio in preparation for career development. They will gain experience (at least 30-hours worth) in leadership, media law and ethics, problem solving, AP style writing, teamwork and more.
The pathway consists of three steps:
- Attend at least four training sessions for a total of eight (8) hours (Workshops, Retreat, two others during semester)
- Maintain required office hours as per position description
- Spend at least two (2) hours working with staff to evaluate work
- Meet with staff at least four (4) times during semester to provide critiques/training
- Maintain required office hours as per position description
- Spend at least two (2) hours with staff to evaluate work and plan for future
- Meet with staff to review works from semester
- Maintain required office hours as per position description
- Spend at least two (2) hours to evaluate work and plan for future for that specific area/section (whether grow or maintain/sustain)
Students self-report hours, co-approved by student leaders. Students' published works will serve as proof of performance.
